Boscombe Cliff Bowling Club is near to Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast guest house (B and B) and is a great place for people who enjoy the wonderful sport of bowls or bowling to visit on a sunny day with a nice cafe that is open to the public.

Boscombe Cliff Bowling Club welcomes people who are on holiday too, and even beginners according to their web site. Traditionally minded Boscombe Cliff Bowling Club, however, is a men only club so I, being female, am not eligible, however, the club also plays host to the Shelley Park Bowls Club, which was formally ladies-only, but is now mixed.

Worth checking out with lots of additional information on their second site accessible from the bottom of their home page. It all looks like great fun!

"We do have Open Days, once or twice a year, to encourage prospective new bowlers to try their hand at the sport. Once taken up most people continue to play until they are physically unable but some have been lucky enough to reach the grand old age of 99 before stopping. Those who take it up on retirement wish they had taken it up sooner.

... this week is the POOLE OPEN TOURNAMENT (27th July - 2nd August) and always precedes the BOURNEMOUTH OPEN TOURNAMENT starting on the first Sunday in August each year when numerous bowlers from all over England Wales and Scotland arrive to match their skills against some international and ex-international players with the main Singles Prize being £1500... Over the last 50 years we have been the most successful of all the Bournemouth clubs."

Crabbing at Mudeford Christchurch tops fun things to do for children or adults while staying at Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast guest house B and B

My son used to love crabbing before he grew up and I'm sure, when he has little ones of his own, he will introduce them to this fascinating past time.

My son reckons that the best place to go crabbing, locally to my Southbourne bed and breakfast guest house (B & B), is at Mudeford in Christchurch.

There is even a shop there that sells crab bait and 'crab friendly' crabbing kits so you know the crabs won't be hurt.



Mudeford Quay is a fantastic place to visit with lots to look at and a play area for young children for after they've finished catching crabs.

Southbourne beach at its short break best from Gordon's Zigzag

Today I thought I'd put up a photo of the Southbourne beaches during their busy time which is when I'm not usually able to get out because of the demands of my Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast.

But it was such lovely weather today and I couldn't resist taking a look and posting the picture here for you to see.

Recommended quantities of water to be drunk each day to maintain human health are six to seven cups. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in Newpoint Hotel single rooms, double rooms and family rooms but, just in case you are feeling thirsty after a great day out on the beach or looking around at the sights of Bournemouth and Southbourne, free water is also provided in Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast reception.

In addition to the free water, of course, another way to stay healthy is to enjoy our wonderful Newpoint Hotel breakfasts followed by a great walk along Southbourne Undercliff or Overcliff :-)

It might seem strange but I love giving discounts because it aligns the needs of myself as a hotelier with the needs of my visitors.

As we look forward to Autumn and Winter bookings now most bedrooms are booked through to September (but do call just in case of last minute bookings cancellations), discounts enable us to fill rooms and our visitors to reap bargains.

Beaches and parking close to Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast guest house (B and B)

When going to the beach, parking can be a real pain so today I thought I'd mention the excellent parking on Southbourne Overcliff (see photo below).

Of course, if you are staying at Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast guest house (B and B), it's only a short walk to the Southbourne beaches so you probably won't need to drive!

However, just to wet your appetite for the sun, sea and sand, here is a lovely picture of some rippling waves!

Metal detecting on Southbourne Beach close to Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast guest house

The patience of those people who do metal detecting on Southbourne Beach (photo top right) always amazes me and I often wonder what they are looking for; perhaps lost treasure, Viking ingots or maybe just pennies dropped by the many who enjoy our fine beaches in the summer and throughout the rest of the year.


Whatever their reasons, it gives me a chance to showcase the lovely sand that is on Southbourne beach close to Newpoint Hotel (B & B) bed and breakfast :-)

Today I thought I would showcase the twin bed bedroom with en suite bathroom which is bedroom 4 at the Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast guest house (B and B). This is one of my favourite rooms as it overlooks the garden area.

As you can see, the room comes with TV / DVD and tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast can be optional to suit guests circumstances but is usually included in the highly competitive rate with discounts for midweek or full week bookings.

This twin bed bedroom is ideal for all sorts of visitors to Southbourne and Bournemouth. Availability can be limited so it is best to ask by phoning 01202 425047 and I can also agree special rates for contractors and other people who are able to book a series of visits which include Winter months.

Visitors to elderly relatives in Southbourne or Bournemouth rest or nursing homes welcome at Newpoint Hotel guest house bed and breakfast (B & B)

For many years I worked caring for the elderly in rest homes and nursing homes and so know the importance of visits by relatives and loved ones. It can be the one thing that mum, dad, gran or grandpa look forward to and which keeps their spirits up.

For sons and daughters too, it is also comforting if mum or dad passes away for them to know that they gave freely of their time in the closing years of their father's or mother's life, despite difficulties of time and distance.

If you have an elderly relative in a nursing home or a rest home in the Southbourne, Bournemouth or Dorset area and would like to visit on a regular basis, you will be made especially welcome at Newpoint Hotel. I understand that travelling to visit can be difficult and a financial burdon for families trying to bring up young children and care for elderly relatives at the same time.

Therefore, please feel free to discuss your circumstances with me. If you are visiting regularly and need accommodation overnight, I will do my best to make it affordable for you with discounts for a series of regular or mid-week visits.

If it helps, we have ground floor accommodation that does not involve climbing any stairs.

If you are able to take your relative out of the rest home or nursing home, you may like to consider a gentle walk along the Southbourne Overcliff. It is generally quite flat and has some magnificent views of the sea and beaches. Parking is very easy too. It must have been popular with many in the past because there are quite a few benches dedicated to loved ones on the Southbourne Overcliff (see photo top right).

Fisherman's Walk cliff railway expected back in use for August 2008

I popped out for a quick stroll to the cliff railway at Fisherman's Walk, Southbourne today to find out whether it was likely to be working this summer.

It looked very fine, as always, with the carriages perched half way up the cliff but, unfortunately, a notice said it was currently out of use.

Back at Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast guest house, I went online and found, from the Bournemouth Council web site that there had been a delay and it is scheduled to be back in use in August 2008.

On the plus side, there is a rather cheerful looking train service (see below) being provided between Boscombe Pier and Fisherman’s Walk which, according to Bournemouth Council, will operate twice an hour between 10am and 5.30pm at a subsidised rate of £1 per journey (normally £1.70 and equivalent to the lift fee).

Of course, visitors to Newpoint Hotel guest house bed and breakfast (B and B) will have been so fortified with an excellent breakfast after a comfortable night's sleep that they will simply take the stroll down Fisherman's Walk Zigzag or Gordon's Zigzag to the beach in their stride :-)

Bournemouth hotel bedroom with level ground floor access to groundfloor bed and breakfast (B and B) accommodation

Today I thought it would be helpful to highlight my two ground floor bedrooms at my Bournemouth hotel bed and breakfast in Southbourne as many have said how much they appreciated groundfloor access and not having to climb stairs to get to their bedrooms.

The first of these is at the front of Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast and is a large family room (bedroom 8) with en suite bathroom, a double bed, a single bed and a double bed settee.

Also, on the ground floor of Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast is a good size double room (bedroom 9) with en suite bathroom (photo below).

Bars, restaurants and pubs to eat and drink close to Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast (B and B)

The Southbourne Overcliff and beaches near to Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast are complemented by some great places to visit and eat and drink so I thought that today I would mention these.

All have received good reports at various times by visitors to my Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast (B and B).

The Spyglass and Kettle (below) bills itself as having wholesome food served daily, extra cold beers, fine wines and fairtrade coffee. Turn left out of Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast and then turn left again on the Southbourne Overcliff at the end of Pinecliffe Avenue.




The Commodore (below) is a traditional pub popular with locals and visitors to Southbourne for many years. Turn left out of Newpoint Hotel B and B and then right on the Southbourne Overcliff at the end of Pinecliffe Avenue.



The Grange Hotel, Southbourne, Bournemouth (below) was reburbished recently and now looks really smart. Turn left out of Newpoint Hotel and then left again on the Southbourne Overcliff at the end of Pinecliffe Avenue.




All with only a few minutes walk of Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast :-)

Sandy beaches close to Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast

The sandy beaches on Southbourne Undercliff seem to go on for miles as they extend over to Boscombe Pier and across to Hengistbury Head.

Every time I visit the Southbourne beaches and walk along listening to the sound of the sea and feeling the fresh air on my face, I marvel at the organisation that makes it all possible.

From lifeguards to shops and from kid safe collection points to beach huts, there is so much going on to help create a great day out for the visitor.
