There is something really exciting about folk music and certainly much traditional folk music has withstood the test of time. I love the driving rhythms of Irish folk music, the cheerful tum-te-tum of traditional English dance music and the lyricism of acoustic accompanied modern folk songs.

We are very fortunate locally to have the Bournemouth Folk Club which is at the Pig and Whistle pub, Queens Road, Bournemouth and is very active with great acts like Flook, winners of Best Group at the BBC Folk Awards 2006.

If you are looking for somewhere to join in, you might like to try the Christchurch Folk Music Sessions where they are always very friendly and welcoming to newcomers.

There is a huge amount of folk music going on around Dorset and you should easily be able to find something you enjoy.

Somebody was complimenting me on how light and bright are the rooms at Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast and I had to admit that it was because of my personal, in-house Bournemouth painter and decorator husband whose ears I regularly bend with demands for a spruce-up to keep Newpoint Hotel the way I like it.

Then it occurred to me that I'd never really mentioned my husband's painting and decorating services on this site and he deserves to be mentioned because of all the work he has put in to make Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast pleasant, bright and the way it is.

So, if you are looking for a highly recommended painter and decorator, I thoroughly recommend my husband. I know it's hardly an impartial recommendation but he really is experienced, meticulous, hard-working and, at the moment, as he builds up his client list after many years of only working on our properties, really cheap!
